Automatically flags symptoms that appeared within days of a medication change — visible as a ⚡ badge on your timeline.

❤️‍🩹

Smart medication reminders

📸

Photo tracking

Photograph rashes, swelling, bruising — tagged with body location and symptom type. Show your doctor exactly what happened.

Photo progression timeline

A visual strip of your photos over time so a doctor can literally see a rash spreading, fading, or changing across weeks.

How to use Dosetrail

A quick guide to getting the most out of the app

First time? When you open Dosetrail for the first time, a short 3-step onboarding will walk you through the basics. This guide goes deeper.

Step 1 — Add your medications

  1. 1

Go to the 💊 Meds tab

Tap the Meds tab in the top navigation bar. This is where you manage all your medications.

  2. 2

    Tap "Add medication"

Enter the medication name, your current dose, and the date you started taking it. Each medication gets a unique colour used across the app.

  3. 3

Log a dose change whenever it happens

When your doctor adjusts your dose, open the medication and tap "Log dose change". Enter the new dose and the date. This is the data that powers the correlation feature.

💡 Tip: Add all your current medications before you start logging symptoms. The correlation feature works best when your full medication history is in the app.

Step 2 — Log daily

  1. 1

    Open the 📝 Log tab

This is your daily entry screen. It defaults to today's date, but you can tap the date to log for a past day you missed.

  2. 2

Tick which medications you took today

Your medications appear as checkboxes. Tick the ones you took. This helps track adherence over time.

  3. 3

Select your symptoms and rate severity

Choose from preset symptoms or add a custom one. For each symptom, rate severity from 1 (mild) to 5 (severe). You can track multiple symptoms per day.

  4. 4

    Log health readings (optional)

If you have them, enter your blood pressure (e.g. 124/82), blood glucose (e.g. 5.4 mmol/L), and weight. These appear on your timeline and are included in your PDF report so your doctor can see trends over time.

  5. 5

Add photos of visible symptoms (optional)

Tap the camera icon to photograph a rash, swelling, bruising, or any visible symptom. You'll be asked to tag it with a body location (e.g. Left arm, Face) and symptom type (e.g. Rash, Swelling). Add a note if helpful.

  6. 6

    Add any free-text notes

Anything that doesn't fit the structured fields goes here — context about your day, diet, stress levels, or observations worth remembering.

💡 Tip: Set a daily reminder in Settings → Notifications so you don't forget to log. Consistency is what makes the data valuable.

Step 3 — Review your Timeline

The 📈 Timeline tab shows a reverse-chronological feed of all your entries. Look out for:

Step 4 — Generate a report before your appointment

  1. 1

    Open the 🩺 Report tab

Select a date range — 7, 14, 30, 60, or 90 days. The report will cover all your entries in that period.

  2. 2

    Review the summary

You'll see symptom frequency bars, average severity scores, a photo gallery, your dose changes, and suggested talking points for your appointment.

  3. 3

    Export as PDF

Tap "Export PDF" to generate a clean, printable document. You can share it directly with your doctor, save it to your files, or print it.

Pro users: Tap "Generate AI Report" to get a plain-English narrative summary of your period — written as if a medical professional reviewed your data. Always shown with a disclaimer that it doesn't replace professional advice.

Setting up medication reminders

Each medication can have its own reminder schedule. To set one up:

  1. 1

Open the 💊 Meds tab and edit a medication

Tap on any medication to open it, then tap the Reminder toggle to enable reminders for that medication.

  2. 2

    Choose your schedule

Select Daily, Weekly (specific days), or Monthly (specific dates). Then set the time — or add multiple times if you take the medication more than once a day.

  3. 3

Use "Log now" from the notification

When a reminder fires, tap "Log now" directly from the notification. Dosetrail will open the Log screen with that medication already pre-ticked — saving you time.

💡 Tip: If you take several medications at the same time, Dosetrail groups their reminders into a single notification so you're not bombarded with separate alerts.

About the app

Is Dosetrail free to use?
Yes. The core features — daily logging, photo tracking, medication management, timeline, and basic PDF export — are completely free with no time limit. A Pro tier unlocks AI-powered narrative reports, pattern alerts, and additional features for £4.99/month or £34.99/year.
Is Dosetrail available on iPhone (iOS)?
Currently Dosetrail is Android-only, available on the Google Play Store. An iOS version is planned for a future release. If you'd like to be notified when it's available, email us at support@dosetrail.com.
What Android version do I need?
Dosetrail requires Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later. This covers the vast majority of Android devices in use today.
Does Dosetrail work without an internet connection?
Yes. All core features work fully offline. Your logs, photos, and reports are stored locally on your device and don't require a connection. The only feature requiring internet is the AI narrative report (Pro), which uses the Anthropic AI API to generate your summary.

Privacy & data

Where is my data stored?
All your data — logs, medications, photos, and settings — is stored locally on your device using secure on-device storage. Nothing is uploaded to any server, cloud, or third party. Dosetrail has no backend database of user data.
Can Dosetrail see my health data?
No. Because all data is stored locally on your device, we have no access to it whatsoever. The only exception is if you choose to use the AI Report feature (Pro), which sends your anonymised log data to Anthropic's API to generate a narrative. Your name and personal identifiers are never included in that data.
What happens if I uninstall the app?
Uninstalling the app will delete all locally stored data from your device. Before uninstalling, we strongly recommend going to Settings → Export all data to save a backup of your records as a JSON file.
How do I back up my data?
Go to Settings → Export all data. This creates a JSON backup file that you can save to your device, email to yourself, or upload to cloud storage. You can restore this if you need to reinstall the app in the future.

Using the app

Can I log a day I forgot to fill in?
Yes. On the Log tab, tap the date at the top to open a date picker. Select any past date to log or edit an entry for that day. If an entry already exists for that date, it will load automatically so you can update it.
What health readings can I log?
You can log three health readings each day: blood pressure (e.g. 124/82), blood glucose (e.g. 5.4 mmol/L), and weight (in kg or lbs — switch units in Settings). All readings are optional and appear on your Timeline and in your PDF report.
How do medication reminders work?
Each medication can have its own reminder schedule — daily, weekly (specific days), or monthly (specific dates). You can set one or more reminder times per medication. When the reminder fires, you can tap "Log now" directly from the notification to open Dosetrail with that medication pre-ticked on the Log screen. If multiple medications share the same reminder time, they're grouped into a single notification.
What does the ⚡ badge mean on the Timeline?
The ⚡ badge indicates that a medication dose change was logged within 3 days before that timeline entry. It's the core correlation feature of Dosetrail — helping you and your doctor notice whether symptoms appeared shortly after a dosage adjustment.
Can I add my own symptoms that aren't in the preset list?
Yes. On the Log screen, after the preset symptom chips there is an option to add a custom symptom. Type in your symptom name and it will be added to your entry. Custom symptoms you've added previously will also appear for quick re-selection.
How does the PDF report work?
The Report tab lets you select a date range (7, 14, 30, 60, or 90 days). Dosetrail then compiles all your entries within that range into a clean, printable PDF showing: symptom frequency and severity, health readings, dose changes on a timeline, photo gallery, and suggested talking points for your appointment. Tap "Export PDF" to share or save it.
What is the AI Report and how does it work?
The AI Report (Pro feature) sends your log data for the selected date range to Anthropic's Claude AI, which generates a plain-English narrative summary. For example: "Fatigue appeared 3 days after your dose increase and has occurred on 8 of the 11 days since." It always includes a disclaimer that it's AI-generated and doesn't replace professional medical advice.
